My brother works at the Radio Shack in South Boston and my parents live nearby. It's a town of about 8 or 9 thousand people, the business center of Halifax County. It has the usual things you would expect - a downtown area, a hospital, museums, etc., along with a couple of racetracks.

You can find a lot at www.southboston.com and www.gohalifaxva.com .

Thank you for your responses. Does anyone know anything about a homeschooling community there? What kind of reputation does ABB have in the community?

You're welcome!

And here's another link for you: VaHomeschoolers: Your Resource. Your Voice. Your Association.

Their list of local support groups doesn't show any right in the South Boston area, but there are some regional ones that aren't far away.

No idea about ABB's reputation. I'll ask my family.

My dad has never heard anything negative about ABB. I checked the local newspapers' websites and all they mention is that the company has expanded their operations in South Boston a couple of times (which I'm sure makes the company very popular).

You might find the local newspapers' websites interesting:

Yes, they are. Their South Boston manufacturing plant employs several hundred people.
