Nice area, around Clifton Forge and Covington, camp and fish up there often.
Would really hate to see it get over developed like other places in our fine
and fair state.
Checkout Lake Moomaw and the upper Jackson River.

Clifton Forge/ Allegheny
I always drive through that beautiful area on my way over to West Va skiing in the winter and whitewater rafting, canoeing, camping, boating in that area.
If you like the outdoors, I can't think of a better place to settle. If you ever want to go to Washington DC, not far away, you can hop on the Amtrak train which goes through town. The people up there are genuine and they tend to be friendly. If you move there and want to get to know people, go hunting or fishing and you will be "one of the guys".

You got that right, true hill-country for real hill-people. In good conditions
the fishing is fantastic. Brown, Rainbow, and Brook Trout. Smallmouth and
Rock Bass abound. Good Country. Their Women can out-shoot most of the
lowland men I've known.

Funny you mentioned the women. One summer I went to a "demolition derby" up there in the hills where all of the participants were local women. They were bangin each others cars, trucks just like the guys and a lot rougher than the lowland boys. I even saw a few fights between the gals, not the guys who just sat back eating hot dogs, etc.

Alot of Scot and Irish folk up there. I remember watching a beautiful buxom,
flame-haired lass at the archery range in back of "The Bait Place" on the
road to Lake Moomaw. She could knock lice off a flea's ass at 50 yards.
Ahhh the brooding hills, land of my people.

Clifton Forge.....Notes of Interest..Think Twice
About a month ago, my husband and I went to check out the Clifton Forge/Covington area as we decided last year we would like to move to Covington within the next few years.
Everyone said stay away from Clifton Forge that the drug issues were extremely bad, even a police officer we talked to in a small town outside of Clifton (Lock???something).
When we drove into Clifton coming from the East Coast, it was a quaint little town that you could tell was trying to improve its little city, but the drug issues and crime freak me out to say the least. We are live in an area where things keep getting worse. Virginia Beach and there is never anything good on the news and we are tired of it.
We are raising our GD 3.5, and want a safe place to live and reasonable. So, any ideas there or surrounding areas would be appreciated. We may make the move sooner if we find something we like. He is a carpenter and has many unknown relatives in covington. Great GF built humpback bridge! Cool place to ride motorcycles too and the little park there and river seems nice.
Ideas welcome.
