Default Visiting Chesterfield which communities to look at?

My husband I are visiting the Chesterfield area in Richmond tomorrow and would like some recommendations for particular communities to check out. We are looking for single family houses in the $450K -$550K range. We have three children aged 9, 7 and 2. A close knit community with other families with young children, tot lots, community pool are all musts for us. We are not ready to look with a realtor yet, as we are just checking out the area before deciding if my husband will look for work down there. We won't be ready to move until after the school year anyway. We would love a new build but also know we might get a little more for our money with a house maybe 5 years or younger. We don't want a house or community much older than that as we currently live in a 50 year old house outside of Washington, Dc in the Maryland suburbs that has many original neighbors. There are very little kids in our neighborhood for our kids to play with and we just don't have the neighborhood feeling that we are looking for. We really want a community that plans 4th of July parades for the neighborhood, block parties etc. A community feel is of utmost importance for us. I may even be able to stay at home with my 2 year old if we are able to sell our house for enough in Maryland, so a community with other stay-at-home moms would be wonderful. We are planning on looking at Summer Lake, Charter Colony and Woodlake. Are there any other ones we should check out? Thanks for any guidance anyone can give.

LeavingMD,
Try Hampton Park. I don't live there, but it looks like it's what you are looking for.

Regards

We are thinking of moving from MD as well to suburbs of Richmond with good public schools. We were looking in to Midlothian. Please post, if you get more information regarding neighborhoods with affordable housing and great public schools.

Thank you
Nisha

Nisha -

This is a pretty old thread, dating back more than two years. You may want to start a new thread so that you get more responses. Also, if you give us an idea of more specifics as to what you're looking for (price range, grades for schools, type of community - HOA vs. none, etc.), we may be able to help a bit more.
