In Bedford County in a development called "Downtown Moneta" I believe they start at around $300k. The development in Daleville Town Center I believe start around that price which is under construction. Another new place is called Lakewatch in Franklin County in the Smith Mountain Lake area. I prefer to live in Roanoke but these places look quite attractive to me.

Default Hey Dogluver

We moved six months ago from a large city in Colorado to Callaway, 10 miles out of Rocky Mount. We love it here. I agree with the post that said if Rocky Mount isn't very big (and it isn't), then Ferrum is really tiny. You could live in Ferrum and drive to Rocky Mount--most of the shopping that we do in Rocky Mount, though, is at the other end of the town, takes us 20 mins. to get there. It's great in a pinch. We get up to Roanoke several times a week, and I prefer even the Krogers up there, but I'm used to slightly more upscale
shopping.

You mentioned driving through a bad part of Roanoke and deciding against moving there. We avoided Roanoke because the taxes are twice as high as surrounding counties.

I've only been to/through Floyd a few times, and if I were to live there, it would be because of its proximity to Blacksburg. After doing a bunch of research, we were originally drawn to the Blacksburg area because of its growth potential. But we fell in love with a house in Callaway and ended up here.

You said you're used to rural, so you'd probably find either Franklin or Floyd fine. We love it here (I can't say that enough), and living out in the country is totally new to us. It's beautiful and the people are very nice.

Thanks everyone!

Hey enitinco - Glad to hear you love it there. I am somewhat scared about moving, having lived in Illinois all my life, but what I'm hearing from people on these forums, I'm sure it will be a great move. We're still deciding on either Franklin or Floyd county. We found a lot of houses reasonably priced in Patrick County but I think that's too far from everything.
Still deciding if we want to live closer to Christiansburg/Blacksburg or Roanoke. That will decide what county to live in.
Glad you are so happy with your move!
