prince george
I have a few questions about Prince George County But, I'm unsure which sub-forum to put them in. It's not quite Richmond nor is it Hampton Roads.
Advice?

Prince george is considered in Richmond. Granted it only takes 15-20min via I-95 to get to the city itself. It is a very very rural county.. Its closest to the city of Petersburg Va. and is considered part of the "tri-cities". It is a nice county but the school system is very poor. I would consider the Chester area. It is close to prince george but has better schools. Something else to think with Prince george is its ems response times ect. Like I said its a poor county. But very charming.

Prince George did just land the new Rolls Royce jet engine factory, which will be a boon to the economy there, and Fort Lee's major expansion should also translate into positives for Prince George.

Thanks for the info but just to let you know EMS is exactly the reason that we will be moving. My hubby is a paramedic and will be coming to the area to work in that field.

Do you know when the expansion is going to start. I hope we can get in there before the housing market skyrockets.
Thanks to bith of you for your replies.

The construction for the increase in troops has already started, both on the installation proper and across the street where they are constructing the Ordnance school. So far, housing prices do not seem to be affected by the buildup. I will say that housing prices here are not declining as rapidly as they are in other areas of the state/country, and I would say the expansion has a lot to do with it (I just relocated with my family to Chester).
You may want to give us an idea of what you consider important in your relocation - schools, commute time, acreage with the house, suburban/rural - those types of qualifiers.
Good luck with your investigation!

Oh, no offense taken. I also used to be an EMT in rural VA so I do know of what you speak AND I agree. He actually will be coming to VA on 3/6 for an interview. I however, will be staying in Michigan getting the house ready to sell. The problem with much of the EMS in the area is that it is volunteer. They don't have many people and respose times reflect that.
We are people that like to have a little land. I love gardening and I will HAVE to have a pool. At our age we don't want much land though. BUT, I have fallen in love with some of the cottages in Walnut Hill area of Petersburg. A few that I have looked at on line seem to have enough for the pool. My garden would not be 25 x 75 like it was in Gloucester.
We have freinds in Colonial Heights so we do know the area pretty well. They are telling me that Petersburg may not be the place for us...I'm sure you know the reasons. Every area has it's woes. I don't want to put myself in the middle of them though. While I love the country I really miss living in a neighborhood.
Another thought that we have is to buy some land and put a modular on it. Not the modular mobiles but one that resembles a stick built. Until we sell here in this REALLY bad market plans for buying have to wait. When our market is good here it is what the rest of the country is experiencing now as a slump. DH may well move before I do. Thank God for friends!

Schools are not an issue. Kids are in the NAVY. However, I just may renew my teaching license and start teaching again for a while. We are looking at commute time though. Hubby and I both have a 3 mile drive to work now. We are trying to keep it to 30 minutes or so after we move.
I was on Ft Lee last month and didn't see much NEW activity. I do think that with the build up they will get a much needed newer commisary.
I can't wait!
I have been watching the job postings @ Ft Lee and I may go there for work. So with that (and some from my above post) said, we are looking at ALL of our options.
BTW, what areas do you service? You can DM me with your answer if you don't feel that posting is proper.
Thanks to all of you. Keep the thoughts coming!
