ok...

TV3 - Home Winchester - tv3winchester.com

TV3 reported a month or so ago about some car thefts near the Berryville Ave-Woodland Ave-Elm street area. Havent heard much about it since but I am sure TV3 will do an update on the situation.

As I mentioned before, the best source when it comes to Winchester, VA is their local television station website, tv3winchester.com. Unlike many other websites for local TV, one can view all of the content reguardless where their location is by watching their wesbite, heck you may know more about Winchester within a few weeks time than many who already live there. Plus TV3 their logo is "..in your community", so besides the usual "crime stuff", they do a lot of community events and facts. Watch their newscasts for a week or two and chances are very good that most if not all one's questions about the area will be answered.

Clearbrook OTOH is ..well nothing. Other than a county run park, post office, firehall, two small restuarants and a little grocery store, thats Clearbrook. Its also a dangerous place too since its the very last town on US11 and I-81 before West Virginia. That isn't so bad in itself but the problem lies just across the WV border. Piggys Night Club !! Piggys is a very popular bar in the area and they get crowded Even though the place can legally hold maybe 200, not uncommon to see 700 crammed in there. Also Sadly Piggys doesn't stop serving the sauce to those who have had too much and many have died on trips after leaving Piggys and since owner Wilbur Alger is "big" in Berkeley County and has pulled a few strings in Frederick County, VA too well the local police there look the other way. I should know..I dated Alger's daughter many years ago and saw all of this stuff firsthand.

I would avoid Clearbrook thanks to Berkeley County politics and Piggys even though neither is in Virginia but the town just happens to be close by.

There is nothing wrong with Clear Brook and it is growing and developing. There are new subdivisions being built in near-by Stephenson. There is also a new development going in which will have a new Target and restaurants. Clear Brook is right near Winchester, close to Rte 81 and easy to get to shopping. There are plenty of nice houses to chose from. I lived there for 2 years and still live in Winchester. The park is very nice and safe. The taxes in Frederick county are low.

Don't know anything about a Elm Street...what town are you referring to? I do not believe you are referring to Berryville as that is not near SU. You are probably talking about Winchester City. There are plenty of people who live in the "city" and there are good and bad areas there...but as a whole, it's a nice place.

If you have more questions or want to be more specific, please post again.

Elm Street is a very small street that connects Berryville Ave to just about Woodstock Lane. The shopping center with Gold Gym is located just off of Elm.
Very small street. Maybe 15-20 houses tops are located there. Its an OK neighborhood Even though the Golds Gym shopping center has seen better days ( back when Nichols Discount City and IGA were located there ) one still doesnt have to go far to find shopping either.

I agree Stephenson is a good place with future developments and new homes being built and that area will keep on growing.

I somewhat take about what I said earlier about Clearbrook. Not all that bad even Though myself I wouldn't live in the area of Clearbrook near the Flying J truckstop/ State Line Exxon mainly because of the issue of bars located across the WV state line and also the large amount of tractor trailer traffic that Flying J gets. The further away from that West Virginia state line where the bars are ( Piggys, Gables, Ace of Clubs, etc.. ) and from Flying J the better off.

I was reffering to Winchester. I am born and bred a west coaster and I have no idea of the safety in that area. I am from the phoenix area. We've decided to rent for a year so that we can look into west virgina and virginia to see where we can live & I can work as I am in the real estate business. I want to settle into an area that will grow, so we are looking at some rental homes in the area to "try" before we buy. Any and all imput is great from you all and much appreciated!

Thanks
Jessica

All of Frederick County (which includes Winchester and Clear Brook) are relatively safe. Frederick County is growing. I would stay away from Winchester City for the most part as far as rentals are concerned. I definitely would not move to WV. Good luck!
