Default Northern Neck areas

Hello, Virginia.

For some quite time, I have been hearing about the northern neck areas of VA. I tried looking online, but only found marginally vague information. Looking to buy a house. Has it hit with the real estate slump? I'm not even sure what area Norther Neck is...NOVA? Or SE VA? VA Beach? All I know at this point is it's located between Potomac and Rappahancock river.

I'd like to know how it is like living in said area. Better than NOVA? Is the commute to NOVA (Falls Chruch) feasible?

Hi,

We took a weekend trip there a few years ago. It is one of the peninsulas on the Chesapeake (the furthest north).

A lot of it was surprisingly desolate. Then there were some very nice historical sites, monuments, vineyards, plantations. And then as we ventured down further, we started to hit some very upscale resort-y towns with some beautiful houses. [Irvington?]

I didn't really get the impression you could commute to Falls Church, Fairfax, etc. It is generally mentioned as more of a resort or retirement area - I don't mean, you know, just the feds who have served their time.

Just out of curiosity I just did a quick mapquest of Irvington to Fairfax and came up with 2 hours, 46 minutes, but that would be the point furthest south. It just *seemed* to me that the closer parts weren't quite what would be the most desirable - again, I remember the term "desolate" came to my mind many times (not including the vineyards, GW birthplace, etc., etc.).

Default Northern Neck

Yes, the Northern Neck is considered "desolate' by some. It is the best place I have ever lived. A little Anglican church full of people who love the Lord and one another is the center of activity in Heathsville, Virginia. Commuting to Northern Virginia is possible but once you get to the Northern Neck, you'll never want to leave. Beautiful waterways, wildlife, fresh air, beautiful farm fields, good people . Working for the church and community, participating in the local church festivals and fishing, oyster, and crab festivals, your own garden, fishing, kayaking, canoeing -- we don't have time to go to Northern Virginia very often. Ahhhhh. truly God's country.

The NNK defintely rocks. Still much area to explore that is not clogged by tourists. Gotta know where to go though, especially if your looking to get out on the water as a tourist.
