We used to live not far from Wytheville and I believe we had Cingular at the time with good results. I guess now that would be AT&T. That was about 2 years ago. Hope that helps!

In far Southwestern Virginia alltel's coverage is easily the best. Its a little tricky because off of I-81 and 77 it gets rural real fast. And if you stick around the interstate and live just off it anybody will work. But I know that Verizon does not serve Wythe and Smith Counties and does not provide local numbers to that area nor allow people living there to sign up, their service is provided by alltel. AT&T is very poor just off the interstate though they are starting to add a few sites. Rural Retreat, Marion, and Wytheville have long been problem towns for them because of the interstate coverage they provide that doesn't extend to many of the surrounding towns. For instance, Bf Buchanon Hwy between Marion and Tazwell is completely dead for them as is all of Grayson county. I've been hunting in Grayson a few times with buddies from the Tri-Cities and alltel is about the only thing that works. I also know a few people that use US Cellular there and seem satisfied. I don't know a lot about them because they don't service Washington County and weren't an option for me to use.

Also, watch out for Troopers in Wytheville. I'm by there a lot, where I'm originally from outside of Abingdon, and more than not, there's always one radaring in Wytheville. It's the State Trooper headquarters of SW Virginia and once you're by there a few times, you'll be able to pick out their favorite spot.

I'm in Wythe county and use US Cellular. They don't necessarily have all the bells and whistles but have consistant coverage. All providers in this area have dead spots but thats just due to the mountains!

I agree- US Celluar is the best you can get anywhere you live! Other than that, Nextel. And behind that is Alltel. Hope this helps.
