I recently read that Sweet Briar College is finally closing due to declining enrollment and declining funds.

The concept of a single-sex college for women is finally dying a necessary death. I think that women need realistic training for employment in business and technology. They do not need places that train them in horsemanship and preparation for marriage. I also think that colleges located in more urban areas can do a better job than places in out in the country.

I welcome other comments.

Well, that's your opinion and Thank God we can still voice our opinions in this country.

I'm sure the professors, administrators, administrative assistants, financial aid office, mainentance, grounds crew, horse trainers, farriers etc etc will miss it. They will miss their paychecks.

Amherst County and the Commonwealth of Virginia will certainly miss the income tax revenue from the employees.

The surrounding area will certainly miss the income from restaurants, hotels dry cleaners, etc, on a daily basis and especially when parents are coming and going.

The alumni, current students and the girls who applied last fall will also miss it. Just because it wouldn't be a good fit for you or your daughter, sister, whoever doesn't mean there aren't many young women interested in having Sweet Briar remain open.

Oh, and the gentlemen at Hampden-Sydney will also miss the ladies at Sweet Briar.

The school is trying to close.. However some other people have other ideas. I even believe an attorney was hired for the opposition to close. I would like to see how this one ends.

Duplicate thread? I don't know if a singular issue such as single sex is the reason the school is closing. We don't have access to the books and the college isn't giving reasons. Its difficult. Especially since Forbes said school was solid less than2 years ago.

Plenty more to the story. I think things get much uglier before there is any resolution. Gotta love the ominous tone the school's leadership takes, threatening severance for faculty and staff if they are sued. I hope the courts or the AG sees through the deceptive actions of SBC's leadership.

Your actual knowledge of SBC stinks. Many good colleges are in small towns--Dartmouth, Williams, Middlebury, Colgate and so on. Even Charlottesville is no metropolis.
