Default cana?

Does anyone know anything about Cana? Also, what is the most 'liberal' city in VA? We are a mixed family and would love to know the best areas to live.

Thanks.

I can't answer your first question because I had never even heard of Cana (I googled it just now to find it). However, I can answer your second question. The most liberal city in Virginia is Arlington. Other cities in Northern Virginia inside the Beltway, particularly Alexandria and Falls Church are very liberal as well. Outside of Northern Virginia, the title would go to Charlottesville which actually in this most recent election was the locality that rejected the proposed same-sex marriage ban by the largest amount (77% vote against it).

nc2007: There is a small community south of Hillsville on US-52 just north of the NC line that is called Cana. This may not even be an incorporated area.

More like a wide spot in the road with several fruit stands and flea markets. I think it has a post office; maybe a small medical center; and that's it. The area was of note because it was the one of the easiest places for NCers to access lottery tickets. Now that NC has its own lottery, Cana is not as busy. It's a pretty spot if you want to live in a rural area, but you'd have to drive down to Mt. Airy for any needs.

I'm from Carroll County, and though Cana is a small (very small) quaint area, it has some advantages and disadvantages. If you have children, the area is difficult because of the proximity to schools. You must drive up a mountain to get to the High School, and it can be a very tumultuous drive to say the least, due to fog, rain, snow, etc. There is nothing there aside from a few antique type stores and a very few (but okay) hole in the wall restaurants. It is close to Mt. Airy for most of your shopping and dining needs. As far as being liberal and all that... define what exactly you mean and perhaps I can answer that. As a mixed race couple, you won't have any problems. If you say liberal and mean protests, pro abortion rallies, college kids who think they know all about life, narcotic legalization, and things like that.... it probably won't fit your bill. If you mean liberal in the sense of being a place that may vote democrat, then perhaps it is. It isn't a wealthy place by any means and has a rather predominant elderly population, many of whom rely on public means for healthcare needs.
