Well, if you like the mountains, you will need to be on the western part of the state. That said, two of the top ranked cities for raising kids are Roanoke and Charlottesville. They have some great schools (research first as not all of them are good...) and many other benefits such as resources from local colleges. The crime rates are low. State parks, SML, sports in Salem, VT, UVA, AT trail, .....

I guess you need to give a few more details. What work are you in? How much $$ do you want to spend? Do you prefer city, suburbs, or rural? What do you do for fun?

I would look at Fauquier County. It is close to the mountains, has good schools and is close to shopping. You will definitely hear more country music than you will rap music there too.

Default I live in Roanoke

Roanoke is a Great Place to live. It's along the Blue Ridge Parkway. At any point in the city, you have a 360 degree view of mountains. Lots of great cul-de-sacs. We have a farmers market. Great nightlife. Wonderful Restaurants. Very Cultural - many people from many different places. I've lived here all of my life and my job is going to take me away next year, but I will retire here for sure! We have two great little towns on either side of us. To the west is Salem - a great town, and to the east is Vinton - much like Salem and also a great town. Between the three cities, there are many great, accredited schools. Nice public and private choices. 94.9 Star Country my fav station
