Hi,
I have found this forum while desperately searching for help for those who have gone through the same trauma of learning their beloved pet has cancer! Today, during a regular annual exam, we found out that our pet has a tumor in her mammary. The vet took two x-rays and when she came to tell us the news she said "Your cat have mammary cancer and most probably it has already metastatic (She said she is almost sure due to lung x-rays). She said "She has only a few weeks left".

But as much as feeling shocked and numb from sorrow, I still don't get how she was so sure without taking an MRI or even drawing blood. Of course x-rays can be great diagnostic tool but the fact that she didn't even want to send us to an oncologist because our pets needs sedation during exams makes me feel pissed off!

I hope there are some out there who lives in Virginia and could recommend us a good (with human feelings) pet oncologist who would be willing to give it a try! Has anyone got help from an oncologist and happy with the experience? I really need to find one who really cares the wellness of my cat! She is my baby and I don't want to give up so easy. God bless you!

Mom of Kapkap The Cat.

The below practice is nothing short of incredible. I've been training LE K9's for many years and this is a must go to destination for serious cases which also includes Oncology. Great staff and some dedicated doctors. EDIT: Not sure why is shows Gainesville, VA in the link as it's in Leesburg.

Dear Bigfoot424 and brava4, thank you so much for your recommendations. I am checking those right now. The only thing makes me miserable is that the vet said it has already spread to lungs. Maybe I am looking for miracles but I just wish she was just another incompetent vet and diagnosis was wrong! Another suspicious thing is that she never mentioned cancer in the treatment notes which I am supposed to send to my pet's insurance company. Looks shady to me!

Thanks for your good wishes. Please pray for Kapkap!

It could be an oversight on her part. You should definitely give the vet a call and ask why she left this out of her notes, as it should be included.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty! Best wishes.

LionLady,
Actually I asked her yesterday over the phone ans she said "When you go to a specialist (which she overtly encouraged us not to) I will share my notes with them and send them to their office". I think she was either rushing us out and just wrote something to fill out the notes and didn't care, or she is incompetent and in a way afraid of writing "cancer" on the form thinking she might get sued or something if it turns out she devastated us for nothing! I believe the latter one is true!

I still cannot believe that we heard the most shocking news of our lives from a heartless, cold-mannered, careless person that is ever possible! That is just so sad! She was mean and like "She will die anyways, let us put her to sleep".

I don't know why it is so hard to find a compassionate human around to take care of your furry baby!

This was in the WAPO recently. Things may be slowly changing.

Hopefully. Compassion, I believe, is the most important thing that makes us human. I don't think you can educate someone to be compassionate, though. It is in your nature. I hope nobody will receive such a devastating news from such an inhumane vet, ever!

I will keep you guys posted. Chances look slim but I still believe in miracles! And we will see if this is the right time for a miracle.

You can always take her to the vet college in Blacksburg or the NC one in Raleigh. They will do a very thorough work up and may be able to connect you to more experimental options should you choose that route.

Without VA Tech is top notch. I have a K9 that was shot and killed on the memorial there out front.
