I currently live in Orange County, CA and have an amazing job offer in Stearling, VA or Peterburg.
I have done a bit of research on both locations and as of right now I am leaning towards Stearling. I would love any feedback about either of these locations.

Avoid Petersburg. You can find threads on city-data forum about the woes of Petersburg.

I agree with the other posters. Go with Sterling. I've been through Petersburg quite a few times and let's just say that the only advantage I've seen that Petersburg has that Sterling doesn't is the lack of the kind of traffic that Northern VA has and easy access to I-85 and I-95. However, that alone wouldn't be worth choosing Petersburg over Sterling, IMO.

Right. You can have your pick of locations to live in the Richmond metro and still be within a 45-minute drive of Petersburg. It's only about 25 minutes from downtown Richmond.

I can say , as someone who lived in Petersburg for 16 years, GO ANYPLACE BUT PETERSBURG !!!!!!!!!! One of the worst places to live in Virginia. You would see beautiful homes and apartments at reasonable prices but it just isn't worth it. Realtors will try to tell you it's on it's way up , and it's been on it's way up for decades. it just keeps sliding back to the bottom. Bums, drug addicts, burglaries, public urination and defecation, tires being slashed by hoodlum pre-teens, 65 year old crack whores wandering the streets, abandoned buildings, corrupt politicians, a worthless police force, one of the worst school systems in all of Virginia. I lived it and I know. It took me 2 1/2 years to sell my home and I only got a fraction of my original asking price. Petersburg LOVES out-of-towners who don't realize what they will be getting into. Search online for recent stories of Petersburg Virginia in the news. It's all bad. STAY AWAY if you value your life.

well, you wouldn't want to live in Petersburg, but a lot of people live in Richmond, which beats the heck out of the Sterling area, and work in Petersburg. Easy commute.
