Hello all, we currently reside in Charleston, SC and really enjoy it, however; we plan to move back up North-ish in June of 2017 when my wife's fellowship is up. Our families reside in Ohio and WV, so we want to be closer with grandchildren, but are thinking VA or NC for us. We lived in WV for a bit, and have visited many places in the time we have been together (Roanoke, Charlottesville, Asheville, Charlotte, Blacksburg, and others in-between.) We are looking for somewhere that's mountain-ish, near a hospital, a safe area for families, a town with a great deal of kid things to do, a spot for young families, a vibrant town, somewhere where farm land is present (we plan to get horses), and a good school system. I'm sure many of you are saying "wouldn't we all?" but I know these places exist...maybe even in the places we have visited, I just wanted to get some input from people that are currently residing or have resided in areas that offer the above. I am an avid trout fly-fisher as well, so near some cold streams and freshwater would be preferred. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Sounds like Charlottesville or Roanoke County if want to be mountainish.
