Is VA considered a sunbelt state?

Up for debate but I would say it's neither rustbelt or sunbelt.

I would have to say no as it is geographically too far north to be included in the Sun Belt.

It would be interesting to see how Virginia's sunny days per year stacked up against states that are south and west of it.

I'd call it northern edge of sunbelt. Moved here from Boston for that reason

B&C, yeah..agreed. Virginia is upper/Old South. But I think the Sun Belt generally runs a little south & west of VA. North & western Virginia can have some long, dark winters.

Conversely, in defense of Virginia as Sun Belt, I remember back in the mid-80s Virginia had 2 schools in the old Sun Belt basketball conference.. Old Dominion (Norfolk) & VCU (Richmond).

I may be totally off base but when I think Sun Belt I think warm climate with minimal winter. Never hear the term applied to VA, but honestly I rarely hear the term at all these days. But VA is definitely more "four seasons" IMHO!

depends where you are. Richmond and Hampton roads have pretty minimal winter. I gather Roanoke gets a bit of real winter.

So maybe the answer is "partly"

I guess when your average winter has 100'' of snow and sub zero weather we could be looked at as a sunbelt state.
