Hi, planning on moving to VA next year. If I am registered as an independent can I vote in either party's primary? I started googling but not sure where to look for VA info. Thanks

You don't have to be registered with any party to vote in the primaries. The only rule is you cannot vote in multiple party primaries if they are being held on the same day.

Virginia's political parties use different methods: open primary, firehouse primary, caucus and conventions. This article gives an overview: https://www.virginiamercury.com/2019...-free-for-all/

Usually, it's the open primary, but the others are used also such as when there is an unexpected vacancy, a firehouse primary:

Note that VA has "off year" elections. Thus we are voting in '23 for all the seats in the General Assembly; '24 president &c; '25 governor &c. and House of Delegates. There is always something to vote on!

Come on down to VA!

I’m an ex-New Yorker, but grew up in NJ. I’m not alone - lots of NY/NJ transplants here!

We all love VA! Great weather, low taxes, friendly people!!!
