When I saw Galax in the mix I knew this was a skewed list. There are so many much nicer communities in VA than Galax.

These things are worthless unless you know what criteria they used. Everyone wants something different for their family, so very hard to say what it is about these that make them the best.

Galax? I didnt think anyone knew about that town. My wifes grandparents retired there back in the 70's. Nice and rural, but I dont remember much happening there (1990's).

15 best places to raise a family in Virginia*okay . I think Charlottesville and Winchester are probably the best out of those 15 when it comes to opportunities, available family activities, and exposing the kids to a little culture.

I have zero issues with anywhere in NOVA not making a list like this. The traffic and high cost of living should keep them off any list showing the best of VA. Except for maybe something like employment and such.

The only thing keeping NoVA out of the list is the utterly insane cost of living. If that wasn't the case, Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, McLean, Reston, Herndon, etc. etc. would be on it.
