Default Goodbye Virginia!

Goodbye Virginia!
After 5 years in central Virginia I am finally moving. I have obviously missed what most people here see in Virginia. I am sick and tired of Lynchburg. I can not live and “work” in here as I wake up in a bad mood almost every morning and as I drive through the worn and torn streets of Lynchburg I get depressed.
So, now I leave this horrible place. I know many of you here seem to love it, so you can have my spot. (I mean that sincerely).

Goodbye Confederate Battle Flags, goodbye NASCAR lovers, goodbye to the whole Jerry Falwell crowd, a special goodbye to central Virginias completely worthless job market, goodbye to all of you who tried to make me join the NRA, goodbye all Monster truck and WWF fans, goodbye to everyone with crappy “The South Will Rise” T-shirts and other Dixie Outfitters merchandise in other words, goodbye to everything that makes central Virginia to central Virginia.

Well,
Right now it seems like I have four places to go. While most employers in Lynchburg found me too dumb and worthless to employ, it seems that in other parts of the world people actually think I have a little something to offer. I know that Lynchburg offers many fantastic job opportunities in the social sector for $8.00/houer with no benefits, call me snobby and everything else, but that was not what I had in mind when I went to college. (Student loans do not come cheep).

Right now I it seems that I can choose between animation studio Jam Media in Dublin, Ireland, advertising agency 52 LTD in Portland, OR, GJP Advertising + Design in Toronto, Canada and Studio Liddell, Manchester, UK.

I have been offered jobs at the two North American companies and one of the oversees businesses are flying me over for another interview. (A friend of me works at the other company and he claimed as late as yesterday that they were very impressed with me after the interview.)

So, I do not know EXACTLY were I am heading….but I sure as heck am getting out of central Virginia.

Default Goodbye Virginia

To Jerry Williams:
I have enjoyed reading your threads, and can thoroughly agree with your musings about Lynchburg. I, too, found Lynchburg to be very narrow-minded when it came to hiring people from out of state. I had excellent references and still had all I could do just to get an interview. Most times, I never even got a response to my application. After months of frustration, I returned back to my state of origin where I immediately returned to the work force after nearly a year off. Virginia is a nice place to visit, but I never plan on living there again unless of course, I don't have to work for a living. Best of luck to you, Jerry.

hey Jerry...
Awesome prospects! I would think you might find in Portland a lot that L-burg is not offering you. I have friends that moved out there that love it! I looked into it myself awhile back. At the time, there were 2-3 bedroom houses available for rent in Portland for around $500 - $600 a month. Cool too, that you have the opportunity to work abroad...that might end up being a tough decision!
I think it is very odd that you were deemed dumb and worthless in Lynchburg. I'm originally from the northeast, and I always assumed that when you hit the south, you would be sought after for your "northern drive" or faster pace, or whatever you want to call it. Wierd. I think that perhaps folks felt threatened? Maybe their response was to try to treat you as worthless?
Glad you are feeling positive about your relo. Let us know what you decide on!

Oh, and Jerry...I may have disagreed with some of your posts at some time or another; but I absolutely agree with your dislike of all the "South Will Rise Again", "Heritage Not Hate", Dixie Flag stuff. I think that sort of thing really "dumbs down" the whole region.
