Personally, I don't care. I've been through WV countless times and it's a beautiful state. We lived in Weirton when I was little.
Per the bolded---That is so true

As for VDOT---yeah, that's true, too. When they're not maintaining roads, they are dreaming up interchanges (like the ones on Route 28) that are, to put it nicely, cockamamie

and then Verizon waits until the day they get done with the road to come in and dig it up.

As a Virginian I oppose such a merger. The stark reality is that West Virginia presently brings more burdens than benefits to Virginia.

And, if I were a West Virginian, I’d oppose a merger, too. Richmond is hundreds of miles away and inconvenient to reach from most parts of West Virginia. I would not want to bestow power to a distant state government.

I never understood why VDOT has such a hard-on for tight cloverleafs, particularly those without C/D lanes.

To be fair, VDOT has started to move away from tight cloverleaf interchanges. The Braddock Road and Little River Turnpike interchanges on the Beltway have C/D lanes, and work is being done on I-395 to remove the tight cloverleaf merges at Duke Street and Edsall Road.

Perhaps, if West Virginia and Virginia merged, WVDOT could teach VDOT how to maintain highway medians. One of my bigger pet peeves with VDOT concerns the weed-choked trashy appearance of most of our state highways.

WV is full of nude strip clubs, near the state line next to all other states. Particularly the Martinsburg area. And some slots casinos (correct me if I'm wrong).

VA on the other hand, is one of the most puritanical states against strip clubs, and casinos.
