Cville is very cool, much to do, lots of outdoor activities, diverse population, intellegent, open minded people. If you are concerned with too much "southerness" just dont travel south of cville and you will be fine.

How "Southern" is Charlottesville?
If you have to ask as if being "southern" is a bad thing then please stay where you are. You "free thinkers" have created your own mess and we don't need anymore "progressive" types or "open minded" types who have checked their brains at the door.

I guess it's about that Southern then. That is exactly the sort of thing Southerners say that makes everyone else in the country say "eww".

Couldn't have said it better myself -- in fact, I started to reply, but didn't know how to put my thoughts into words. I did say "eww" -- that's for sure!

You are COMPLETELY striking out on the point of the statement though. Southerners like the way the south IS. They aren't even opposed to sharing it with a "yankee". The problem is that southerners DO NOT like the progressive lifestyles of the New England area, etc. typically. That's why they don't move there.

So based on this you still cannot fathom why it's a bitter pill for southerners to watch New Englanders move in and try to start dictating what needs to be done to make the south better (Translated: More like New England, just with warmer weather)??

Generally southerners are welcoming to people who come down and attempt to adapt to where they chose to move. They tend to be a bit less thrilled with those that move down and complain about the life-style and the way things are run.

I really do not see why that's so hard to understand.

So you think the south is "ewwwww"??? Well "What on Earth are you doing here then?" is the question southerners ask themselves.

It's a bit of arrogance to expect southern society to change to accomodate northerners when they relocate to the south. You moved. You adapt. PERIOD!!!

This Canadian just doesn't get all this southern, northern bickering..my opinion is you are all people, good and bad, educated and uneducated learn to get along...Don't sweat the small stuff....I am a cancer survivor and believe me all your bickering about the the northeners and southeners is ridiculus seems very unimportant to me...wasted time..

I also agree that if you are the one moving to the north or south then you should be the one to adapt not the other way around..

Peace! live side by side in love and peace! there are much more important things that could use your input and energy, just my opinion!

Hello, Rhett...I have question for you...As you can tell by my name, NorthernRebel, I am a northerner. It is ironic really, I don't feel like I belong here. I tell people that I was born in the north but God made a mistake and gave me a heart from the south (Yes, I believe in God and I know God doesn't make mistakes). I want with all my heart to move to Virginia to experience the south and I have EVERY intention of leaving the northern way of life, along with the weather (I actually live in New England), right where it is. Is there room for me and my like-minded kin (that's a southern word isn't it ?) in Virginia? Where would you suggest I move? I am not at all progressive...God, country, apple pie. That's me! Give it to me straight, now
