Hello there!

My husband has been spending quite a bit of time in the Winchester area and really likes what he has seen. We are from VT and are looking to move someplace warmer, not so liberal but would still like to be in a somewhat small city, more rural area. Would love to hear more about Winchester.

How is the cost of living? Home prices? Property taxes? Salaries? Daycare?

Any info you could provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Default Me,too!

Like Notte I'll be moving to the area soon.
In addition to her questions,I'm interested in the usual new town things- a good hair stylist, dentist, gym, grocery stores, Veterinarian, etc.
I'm moving from a more rural area in NC,so the bar is pretty low.
We do have a great YMCA here,is there one in the works for Winchester?
Thanks,
refly

Default Winchester

I like the downtown area of Winchester. They have really improved a lot of the old historic buildings and the city seems to be getting a little "DC" sophistication. I understand there are some people in Winchester that commute to DC and there was talk of a train. I'm planning to come up there when the Patsy Cline Museum opens. The Apple Blossom Festival is spectacular!!

Default Malls

If you don't mind braving the traffic, Tysons Corner Center in McClean is about an hour away from Winchester. There are few malls(if any) in the U.S. to compare with, even Apple Blossom Mall.

I'm guessing that was tongue-in-cheek....

Also the Dulles Towncenter is about 45 minutes away (on a good day). Also huge in comparison.

Its a convenient drive for me and not in the DC traffic! Thanks for the info!

It's not as big as Tyson's. Not sure what is but it's a nice-sized mall in comparison to Apple Blossom.

Default Wow!

Thanks for all the replies!
It will be great not to have to spend a fortune in gas for to get to those places. I looked up Apple Blossom mall-compared to Southgate mall here, that's a real mall, not a series of stores that share a roof.
It's all relative!
One more question- can you actually drink the tap water?
That would be nice!
