Default Lynchburg - Areas to avoid

I have to move to Lynchburg soon and can only afford an apartment (preferably an efficiency, studio, or one bedroom, but I might have to settle for a roommate) that is under $500 (maybe >$450). Given my limited income, I realize that it will lead me towards rougher areas in the city, but it's the only option available to me at the moment. Are there any neighborhoods/streets/areas that I must avoid in the city? The condition of housing is not a concern, but, naturally, crime (robberies, auto theft, mugging, etc.) is.

Default Lynchburg

Lynchburg is not that bad on crime. I think the rent you are asking for though is probably too low to do much with so a roommate might be the solution!

I know there isn't high crime, but based on what I've heard from former and current Lynchburg residents in the past is that there are a handful of spots in the city to avoid. Not because you are guaranteed to have your car broken into (for example), but because it's less likely to happened if you lived somewhere else in the city. They could be wrong though. I'm just throwing the question out there and figure I might get some useful information.

As far as rent is concerned, I've found a number of places in town that will suit my income (I'm in school so it will go up when I graduate and get a better job). It is a viable option, but a roommate will probably be the route I'll go (*cringe*).

East of Fort and north of Langhorne. In other words the northeast part of the city. But you can have car breakins anywhere.
