Default Chincoteague Area Resources?

I am looking at taking a job at the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, and I was wondering what my best options were for relocation to the area.

I have a 7 year old daughter, and I will be in need of a rental property, at least for a while after we move. I prefer it not to be an apartment complex, but I don't know how common non-vacation house rentals are in this area.

I also wonder about the schools. Are the public schools up to snuff? We are currently in Indiana, and my daughter has attended a private school here because the public schools rate so poorly.

I wonder which communities within commuting distance are best? I don't have to live on the island, and I am very cost-conscious. I would appreciate any input!

Thanks!

I can't really answer your specific questions, but I suggest calling a realtor in Chincoteague and asking about non-vacation rentals. It's a quaint little town kind of 20 years behind other places (which I consider, in most ways, to be wonderful.) We vacation there and have been there at many different times of year. If there was any way we could move there, we would, but given our jobs, we cannot do that. We go there specifically for the National Wildlife Refuge (we are birdwatchers.) Good luck to you in your decision!
