Very sad. I don't know what the stats were when I grew up there, but I don't recall that much violence.

Of course, as compared to Pittsburgh, where I live now, that is just a few months worth of crimes. We sometimes have several shootings in a week. Depends on gang activity. We also seem to have a lot of cops die in shootings here for some reason.

Unfortunately, Danville is not known as an oasis of peace. Hopefully it can turn around! There are some very nice neighborhoods that seemed like they would be crime free, at least that's the impression I got on one of the few times I've been there.

I'm coming to Pittsburgh this weekend! I love that place. Not for the reasons you mention though.

Oh that is great! I hope you have a wonderful time. It's a very nice place to visit. Don't forget your coat. It's freezing here!

I, too. wish Danville could turn this around and become the city it used to be. I miss it so much and I'd love to live there again. My best friend is still there and is talking about leaving. It's awful to think that this gem of the South could change so much.

I have no idea if you will see this, but I am from Danville and also live in Pittsburgh now. I get picked on for being a Southerner all the time up here!

The funny thing about this is that much of Pittsburgh is just as redneck as southern VA.

Sadly, I think as the exodus of jobs continues, it will only get worse. They have done a great job with the Dan Daniels park, and the train station area. It could be worse; Higher taxes in South Boston, and nothing to show for it, no parks, no recreation whatsoever, no nothing except an empty industrial park and a few fat wallets.
