Default Grundy, VA--advice on where to live/work

I am thinking about moving out to Grundy, VA and wondered what some options were for employment. I really do not know too much about the area, so any information would be helpful. My boyfriend is going to pharmacy school and I will need a job, so that is why I am coming out. Just wondering if anyone had ANY advice for me because I would REALLY appreciate it.
THANKS!

I'm not sure. I know its a really small place so I can't imagine there being much work there. I do believe its a coal mining town though so maybe you could do that!

You will find that the rental market in Buchanan County/ Grundy area is very tight and expensive for the area you are coming too. There is a true lack of housing. That is changing, of course; but it will take a couple of years to catch up to the demand. Work is scarce, but new industry is coming to the area. Sykes industries, a call center, will open in the next several months, employing several hundred people. The region is isolated and rural, but the mountains are very beautiful in the summertime. You will find that people here are very friendly on the most part. But be prepared to travel to Abingdon, Va (1 1/2 hours away) for theatre, great restaurants, shopping, etc. We do have a Walmart in Pikeville, Ky and Cedar Bluff, Va 45 minutes away.
The real estate agents in town usually have a monitorium on the rental housing market. I would start there. Please take into consideration schools if you have children. Sticking to the immediate Grundy area if you do have children would be best. Riverview elementary/middle is a wonderful school with greater diversity of students if you are moving into the area. Hope this helps!

anyone looking for housing in the area should try Cedar Bluff. It is very peacful, beautiful area, only five minutes from everythng in richlands and a 20 minute drive from the Pharmacy school and 35 for the law school. Jobs are also better in Richlands. Check with the VA employment commission for jobs in the area. Rent prices for a nice 2-3 bedroom home in a good area are about $550 to $650 a month. It is a great area to live in. The schools in the area are great. also Southwest community college is very close. there are excellent doctors in the area also. If you attend church on a regular basis you are in luck, being in the bible belt you will definitly find a church you would enjoy attending and all will welcome you with open arms.
