In the late 80s and early 90s I spent quite a bit of time in Buchannon. I had family who lived there and I worked in Roanoke for awhile. I remember Buchannon as quiet little town. Most of the people were friendly, some were suspicious of me since I am a Yankee (from Michigan). There was a place by the river called Big Daddy's that had pretty good hamburgers if I remember correctly. I can only recall two gas stations in town and no fast food joints. There was a drug store that still had a soda fountain. I haven't been back since 92. I don't have any family in the area any more either. I'm thinking about moving to Wyoming to find work and I may never get back to that part of the country again. I would love to see it again before I head west but I am a little hesitant. If it has changed drastically I think I would rather remember it the way it was.

I doubt there's anybody from Buchanon here b/c it's still small.
I haven't been there myself (or at least, not since I was a little kid) so I can't tell you much about it other than what I've heard -- which would make me believe that you'd be ok going to visit it. It should be as you remember.

One of my best friends moved to Eagle Rock a couple years ago. If you know Buchanon, you may have heard of it... although it is teeny tiny lol.

Buchanan, Virginia
Buchanan is a very closed little town made up of small town people. They have "revitalized" the downtown area in hopes of attracting the "upscale" folks from Roanoke, but it just hasn't caught the fancy of the Roanoke "snobs". It is widely regarded as very country and I don't think the locals like outsiders at all. I got that impression from some friends I visited who lived there and they told me all about the town. If you weren't born there, you will never fit in Buchanan.

I haven't been there myself (or at least, not since I was a little kid) so I can't tell you much about it other than what I've heard -- which would make me believe that you'd be ok going to visit it. It should be as you remember.
