Defense Industry Jobs in the Charlottesville Area?
Hello everyone,
My husband is applying for grad school at UVA, so we may end up moving to the Charlottesville area. I'm hoping that I will be able to keep my job and work from home, but just in case I cannot, I'm wondering what my options will be.
Can anyone please tell me if the defense industry is big in the Charlottesville area? I know that Northrop Grumman has a facility there (I am currently a Quality Assurance Engineer for their Electronic Systems Sector in Baltimore), but I'm not sure any positions will be open that I would fit into when it comes time for us to move. It would be great if anyone could recommend some companies that are along the same lines so I could continue my research!
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much in advance!

For what it's worth, SAIC has offices in Charlottesville.

National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) has a big office in Charlottesville and is slated to bring around 1,000 more jobs to the area in the near future. It is my understanding that these positions will also bring to the area small sub-contractor companies which support NGIC. Another good resource is this: Employment

Hello!,
Sean - thank you for letting me know about SAIC. I checked out their website and will be adding this to my list of possible employment opportunities. They have actually partnered with Northrop Grumman in the past and I did not remember this until you posted. Glad to hear they are based in Charlottesville, too. Thanks!
Pavel - Great news; thank you so much for your insight! I'll take a look into NGIC and find out what I can about their future plans in the Cville area. I have also started to look at the link that you sent and it has a lot of information that I will definitly be able to use.
Thanks guys! If anyone else has additional companies they can add, please do. Thanks so much!

Good luck!
I'm more familiar with the Roanoke and NRV area. If he applies to Virginia Tech or another Roanoke area college, there are quite a few smaller defense contractors, including one large contractor that I'm aware of (GE).
