Hey all!!!

I'm a 23 year old recent graduate from the midwest and I just moved to the Hampton Roads area with my fiance'. He's been living here since Nov. of 2007 because his job transfered him. I have a B.S. in Organizational Leadership and Supervision...or simply put, I majored in Human Resources. I have some work experience in Human Resources, but I am having the HARDEST time ever finding something here.

Because we only have one car right now I definitely have to take into consideration the commute, but I'm pretty open My fiance' and I don't have any kids so we're doing pretty good money wise, but I know we could do better with a second income.

If anyone has any suggestions on where I should look or know of any openings it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The military is a fairly large employer in the area so if you have not looked here, you may see something.

I believe ProSoft is right there in the Hampton area. I know they also have a Distance Learning Lab up in Williamsburg, but that may be too far for you travel.

Good luck!

Well, if you have a background in HR, you may want to consider working for a staffing firm. I had a hard time finding a good paying position when I first moved to the area and a friend suggested that I become a recruiter. It was the best thing I could have done for my HR career. I got the inside scoop on the businesses in the area and was able to use my connections I made as a recruiter when I wanted to leave that side of HR and go into a more corporate based position. Just a thought!

Don't forget to check out the "local" job boards - 757Jobsnow.com and CareerConnection.com - they have more Hampton Roads companies working with them than the Nat'l job boards.

Lockhead Martin has a prosoft contract and many offices around the area. Many industries are always looking for HR staff. The Virginian Pilot always has listings in it's career section

Thanks everyone for your responses! They have been extremely helpful and I am definitely open to anyone elses suggestions. I have recently gotten a call back from Sentara Hospital for a position as a recruiter assistant. Do any of you currently work there? What's the company's rep in the Virginia area?

Some time ago, I worked for Sentara. I must say I had a very pleasant experience with them and really enjoyed all the perks they offered. They generally offer work/life balance and pay pretty decent for the area.
