If you want a quiet area then this is the place. It does have a community college and numerous small businesses. Don't believe it has a grocery store but it's been a bit since I was there. I could live there but some could not.

Nice area to live or would some of the surrounding areas be a better choice

It's next to Interstate highway 64, in the Allegheny Highlands mountain range. The Amtrak "cardinal" route stops in town once a day in either direction. It's next to a larger town called Covington. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifton_Forge,_Virginia

Not sure why you're moving, but Lexington is a much nicer area. Its about 30 miles east of Clifton Forge on I64.

I would agree on Lexington. Covington is okay (beautiful area surrounding) but the town is run down in places and the mill in the town can smell pretty bad. I was there a few weeks ago and it was pretty strong. Good friends live outside of the town a couple miles and they can smell it depending on the winds.

Buena Vista might be worth a look, too. If you're looking for cheap real estate in a town that isn't dead..keep going west to Huntington.

There is a Kroger in Clifton. It is not as nice as the one down in Fincastle area. I would prefer to live in Lexington over Clifton, which is very small and insular.

If you are looking at a house you like in Clifton, you can certainly drive to Lexington pretty easily from Clifton, if you want to.

I hope you mean Clifton Forge to Lexington and not Clifton to Lexington?

Sorry, I mean Clifton Forge but often referred to in my household as Clifton. Apologies for any confusion.
