My self-worth declined rapidly after all the rejection. Moved and got a job within the first 3 interviews. If I ever live there again (doubt I will) I will go when I don't have to worry about finding work.

If it is any consolation I believe you…………

I am grateful that I don't have to worry about that because I work for myself, but for people who don't have that luxury, that surely wouldn't be any fun!
I wish any/all of you luck on your job search! And I didn't think it was legal to ask about/talk about religion in a job interview...but it sounds like they do things differently up there!

Michi- I too work for myself- started a business @ 19 and did what it took to move forward. Lynchburg has a great business climate for entrepreneurs, though networking is an essential skill if you want to do a lot of business locally. As for health care, I'm sure that you didn't get any religious talk from Centra Health. I know for a fact that there is a shortage of nurses (my wife has been forced to work bonus hours to help cover the lack of help). If you are a CNA, the job market might be tighter but RNs and LPNs have no problem... unless there are good reasons to not hire them. If you are a doctor or have some other medical specialty, than you just have to follow the openings. You can't be down on an entire area for simply having specialty fields sewn up!

Wise Street
Does anyone know anything about Wise Street? There was a house I saw online that listed the address as 903 Wise St, in the 24501 zip code. I don't know enough about the town and the neighborhood to know whether that is good/bad/indifferent in terms of safety. House was built in 1885 and looks nice from the outside, but that doesn't tell me much.
Any advice/info? I'm in FL right now and can't just go drive by.
Thanks!!

Would that be true of anything in that zip code? I'm trying to narrow down my search area, but it seems like Lynchburg has a lot of different zip codes, so I'm uncertain which ones are quality neighborhoods and which ones are not.
Also...'hood' like crime/gangs/robberies/drugs, or 'hood' like run-down, not much money, older homes?
Thanks for your help!!

Wise St.- Bad! 24501 and 24502 are mixed, with 01 having a bit more low income neighborhoods. Downtown 24504 would be least desirable with few exceptions. Decent areas in 01 would be some of the neighborhoods along Old Forest Rd. and Lakeside Dr. 02 has nicer old neighborhoods along Fort Ave between Memorial and Wards Rd; also, many decent areas down Timberlake Rd. Some transitional areas on Rivermont in 24503 can make for a great buy, but the further out you go, the higher the price. I'm not sure what price range is acceptable for you, but be careful if the asking price is under 130k!

sregorat -- thanks for weighing in on the subject. Any opinions from anyone are appreciated. I don't care, neighborhood wise, about low-income, black/white/Asian, or any of that...but I definitely DO care about safety for myself, my daughter, and my belongings. My price range isn't too high, though, so I might have to live in an older, 'less nice' neighborhood...as long as it's safe, other stuff is ok.
Thanks again.
