You can read the local newspaper the "Courier-Record" on their website each week. Just google "Courier-Record" and it will pop up.

I'm predjudice against predjudice people, so I would not live there. Found a lovely villiage in Germany and will move there next summer. The people are tolerant of all races and welcome diversity.

The United Methodist retreat center in Blackstone is not in the best of financial health. It seems to be discussed at this denomination's annual conference each year.

I attended it once. That is enough for my lifetime. It was not a friendly experience.

Other folks love the retreat center.

Blackstone is an interesting town--it is difficult for a newcomer to find their niche, and it will always be difficult to every really "fit in". But, that being said, it is very convenient to Richmond and Farmville, and offers affordable housing. The schools are good for rural and I think they try quite hard. I do think there is a very negative "vibe" in Blackstone, that is often fueled by the local paper. But hey, you gotta sell those papers!
