I am a new teacher starting my first teaching job in Luray,VA, and I was wondering if anyone is from or has lived in this area before. I am only 23 years old, moving from Richmond, VA, so I'm thinking there's not going to be much going on in this small town! Any advice on where to rent an apartment? Or perhaps, any places I should take note on visiting? Whats it like living here?

I don't have any advice other than the fact that I love visiting Luray! We go there every summer to camp and tube the river. It's a beautiful area....but I have only visited there.

Enjoy your new job! Congrats on landing that first teaching gig.

It is a very rural area. I remember visiting a museum before in the town.

Beautiful beautiful area.... Doesn't look like much to do though.... Maybe try living closer to Harrisonburg...

Good luck with the new job!!! I work just up the road in Front Royal... I love it.

I would start by looking in the Page News and Courier - the local newspaper. you should be able to find something to rent for a reasonable rate.. I would not commute form Harrisonburg - it's about a 40 minute drive (not too far), but with the cost of gas, that can get expensive.

Luray is a nice small town, with lot of good recreational opportunities. Best of luck

I was just curious how you are liking Luray. I am also 23 and have been here for almost three years now. What do you think about the page county school system? Have you met any people our age?

The OP posted in 2008 and apparently never came back so likely won't now. I live near Luray and am there often. Beautiful country but not a big town if you need that. Harrisonburg and Culpeper and are about equal distance from Luray and are the 2 closest "bigger" towns with Harrisonburg the largest of the 2.
