Passed through Onley from VA beach to ocean city a couple of times. It is rural for sure. I think there is YMCA there, probably a grocery store too. Last I remember it wasn't a very bumpin place - no real new development that I could tell. Make sure you don't move right next to a chicken processing factory they can stink - there is one up the road in Temperanceville not sure about Onley, can't remember. Probably an hour to Assateague Island. Never been to Onancock...
If you love water specifically fishing, waterfowl hunting, boating its beautiful up there. If you are a city person then don't know how happy you'd be there. In my opinion, eastern shore is awesome, so laid back, but too far from the mountains and some real surf for me...
