Please Help...Collinsville, VA??
My husband is a letter carrier and just recieved an offer to relocate to Collinsville, Va. Please someone tell me if this is a dangerous town? The only posts I came across were NOT favorable towards Collinsville or the surrounding area. I just want my husband to work in a decent place--since he will literally be walking around town all day, it is very important that the neighborhood be a safe one.
PLEASE HELP US!
Thanks so much

not dangerous, but not worth it
I grew up in Collinsville, and there are a few sketchy neighborhoods, but most of the town is safe. But there's nothing there, the poverty rate is pretty high, unemployment is awful, and there's nothing to do. There are a bunch of fast-food restaurants, one AWESOME Mexican restaurant (best thing I can say about my hometown), the architecture (if you can call it that) is outdated and crumbling and just plain ugly. The neighborhoods themselves, like I said, are mostly ok.
The best way I can sum it up is that when I go to visit my mother, I get depressed. There's no life to the town; it's a very depressing place. Not because it's small -- because I love small towns in general. I am not a city person. It's just that this small town is just... sad.

Thanks so much for your reply Ryleigh. I am so glad to hear that at least the town is not dangerous! Our dream is to relocate to Greensboro/Burlington, NC and this job offer is the closest we have come to actually making that happen. Do you think that my husband would be able to make that commute without going crazy? Mapquest says it is a 1 1/2 hour drive up highway 220. Is this an accurate estimate? Any info on this would really help.....thanks!

Hmmm... well I haven't made that drive in at least 10 years, but it seems to me that it was an hour away, not an hour and a half. I'll ask my mom and get back to you.
