We are looking to move to Va and started looking at Lynchburg and Roanoke. From reading the forums we are not too sure.
We are looking to get away from the high cost of living in New York. We would like a place that is low on natural disaster, low on snow, has a good job market ( not the good old boy network), low rent and genuinely friendly people. We're not much into the church scene.
My bf has long hair, tatoos, and a college education. We're not into partying, drug use,or gangsters.
New York is home to us, but the taxes are high and the heat/electric bills just doubled.

Default more info

Pie,cake(esp cheesecake),cookies!!! bring it on.
No kids.
2 cats
Reasonable rent in a good location for the average amount of $ to be made in the area.
Working: horse farm, factory, white collar. We have many options.
But we seriously wonder if we will have a hard time getting jobs that are decent due to some of the posts we read.
We are looking for a mellow place and love the outdoors.
Hope this helps.

Roanoke and Lynchburg both have job ops, of the two places, Roanoke may be more to your liking, but both small cities are much more laid back than most give them credit for. You will be in the south, but not deep south. Church scene would likely be more of a concern in smaller towns, not cities-and in this part of VA. these are what passes for cities.
