Recommedations on areas to look for a teaching job in Virginia
Where are going to work:
I am interested in moving to Virginia to teach at a middle school sometime in the future. I haven't selected an area yet to see job availablities. I would like to teach in a decent school district.
How much are you willing to spend on housing: $300,000 max.
How long of a commute are you willing to tolerate: 15 minutes
If you had kids would you put them in public or private: A good private Chrisitan School is preferable. Second choice would be a great public school district.
Type of environment: I have a 10 year old that loves horseback riding. I would like her to be near some good ranches. We would also like to be very close to parks since we love to hike. We would like to live where there is alot of outdoor activity such as biking, hiking, horseback riding or cross country sking. I like the changes in seasons with lots of trees.
Pie or Cake: We like both.
Thank-you for your input.

Thank-you for your input. But after talking with my husband, he is now preferring that we spend about $150,000 for a house. Do you have anymore suggestions based on this change?
Thank-you

$150,000 for a single family home? I would think that would be quite limiting.

You probably will not find anything in VA for that price unless you are in a remote area of the mountains (and not a city like charlottesville) and in this case you would probably not find Christian schools or anything else around for that matter. You may have a hard time at 300k in most parts.

Indeed. I was going to say try Virginia Beach. You can't get a decent dwelling here for even close $150, 000, though. Our school system is the 2nd biggest in the state and has an excellent reputation. We are a city but there is an area called Pungo in the south of VB that is rural with farms, including horse farms. http://www.pungoliving.com/horses.htm/ (broken link) This area also includes Blackwater and Creeds. You are also close to suburbs and even city life living in VB. It all depends on the area in which you choose to live.

Take a look at Blacksburg (Montgomery County). Its High school rated in Newsweeks top 5%. Better chance of finding something within your budget. Horseback riding is nearby also. Great biking trails on the New River. Not sure about teacher salaries but you could also pick up something at the university.
