Hey Joe, I found it for you:
It's 37 acres for $475,000 It doesn't overlook a town but it overlooks a vineyard.
Of course it would help if I knew what your budget was.
Cheers,
Sean

I live in Galax, Va. It's an historic area. But hardly rundown. This is a friendly small town. I'm not native to this part of the country but have lived in SW Virginia for over 18 years.

Hello jarrett622! So you would not consider Galax to be run down? I've heard conflicting reports, so I suppose I'd have to see it for myself...

There are areas where the factories were, the buildings now stand empty. Some of them are old but not allowed to be trashy. So rundown is I suppose a subjective view and is restricted to a very small portion of the town. If you walk around the town, not just certain areas, overall Galax is a pretty little town and I don't see it as rundown. Also, the downtown is currently undergoing a revitalization. They received funding to do some sprucing up and such. It'll be interesting to see what they do.

The picture reminds me a lot of the Powell Valley overlook. Powell Valley is not a town in itself, it is a valley off of Big Stone Gap, VA, about 45 minutes from Kingsport Tn, or an hour or so from Johnson City, TN.
Pictures I have found online do not do Powell Valley justice.

You might want to check out pictures from Joe Fawbush's website. Pictures are from around Norton and Wise County Virginia. A very beautiful part of the country. This is the very same same area Doubletwins refered to.
