well i'm going to give it another shot only this time i'll use a pic so mayby it will make it a little easier for someone to tell me were i might find something like this area in sw va or va-nc border, town sits down in valley as most do, somewhat isolated but yet say within 45 min to a good size city such as roanoke for example.

I would definitely look at Galax / Carroll County. I little further than 45 minutes, but you are only about an hour from Winston-Salem, NC. (much larger city). I wouldn't be surprised to hear that that picture came from Carroll or Grayson County. You might also look into Mt. Airy, NC which has a great small town feel and is only about 30 minutes from W-S or a little further to Greensboro. I'm from that area, so feel free to ask any questions.

thought about bluefield area but from what i gather not that great there need lil more south.

well you take the hollow to the left and i'll take the 1 to the right, good thing you abandoned arkansas them wild hogs bout got me & my brother 1 day lol.

all the people with the big bucks are buyin property left & right prettywell runnin the locals out the way it sounds in tn, heck i may have to settle for a tree house in the woods.

If you look at Sperlings "best places" and a few other sites and compare it to your particular area....the climate it almost ideal. When it does snow.....its snow....not ice....and its around 10-15 inches a year. Thats less than the US average. The year round temps are also perfect. I'm in New Mexico right now and its warmer in Floyd than it is here. Go figure.

Galax is pretty run down from the posts I've read, and Independence was supposed to be getting a federal prison or something. Just a thought.

Giles County is supposed to be pretty ice, as is Blacksburg and Abingdon.

Depending on where you "go south" from in Virginia, you're liable to and up in more mountains....lol.

I'm not sure why I'm trying to sell you on Floyd.....I haven't even moved there yet.
I guess I'm just excited about it.

...but, I really don't want EVERYONE to find out about it and move there........forget what I said......SW VA sucks...its terrible, you'd never want to live there. Its boring and you'll automagically turn into a chubakka' chewin redneck and start sayin' ya'll and you 'uns.

If you don't want to be up enjoying the view from the perspective the picture is taken from, but rather down in the valley we are looking at you definitely need to look at Mt. Airy, NC - that is my #1 recommendation
