Default Another reckless driving

My son is 24 & got his 1st ticket yesterday - reckless driving, 87 in a 65, in Prince William co. Va. Yep, forget the excuses, there is none. We live in WV and not familiar with Va much past Winchester (he was going to a concert at Nissan pavilion). Anyway the cop told him if he had a clean record to bring a copy of to court & it would help (the cop also told him that he would also "help you best I can". Anyway I've read a bunch of other posts on here & have been looking at a lot of lawyers websites & some people say the lawyers are ripoffs (might you do just as well without one?). Anyway I was looking for other peoples experiances in Prince Williams co. traffic court & also any decent, affordable lawyers.
Thanks

I can't tell you about PW co. in particular but as far as the state is concerned, since this is his first ticket, and if he was cooperative with the officer, there is a class you can take (8 hours on a Sat., could probobly take it in Winchester) plus 6 months on probation, could either reduce the charge or take it away from his record. It may be different with you being Out of state but worth looking into.

I got a ticket in WV and took that class in Winchester , it doesn't help you in court here, but will take 3 pts off your record - kicker was DMV says since I took the class before points were given I couldn't use it. Got lucky though, I paid the fine & the small town never sent the ticket in to DMV.

Thank you vamtncat. We gambled, showed up for court with the clean driving record, plead guilty, and the (substitute) judge reduced it to speeding 79/65. $100 fine + $72 court costs. Seemed to be a better deal than the people with lawyers were getting - 30 days suspended & $500 fine..........one fellow with several tickets got a $125 fine
