Default Salary in Charlottesville, VA

Hi,
I just got a job offer for 81K in Charlottesville,va. I'm relocating from Tucson, AZ where I own a home and earn 85K. In Charlottesville, I will be renting an apartment. I'm the only one earning and have 3 year old kid. My question is does 81K be enough to pay my mortgage ( in AZ), apartment rent, preschool expense and still save some money.

Any responses would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Depending on your spending habits, you should be okay. Im a single mom and I think I do okay. You can save money by putting your son in preschool at the public schools. Its free. Good Luck

Do note, tho, that CV does have a surprisingly high cost of living, and we have (at time of writing this) the highest average gasoline prices in the entire state. Why? "Because they can" is the only reason we can come up with. While 81K is certainly a good salary by all means, just be aware that this small town in west central VA is the 3rd most expensive area in the state, behind only northern VA and Tidewater.

Wow, I wasn't aware that the cost of living was so high in C-ville. Good to know though! Thanks.

Good luck on the move. A site you might want to check for info re. COL and equivalent salaries is----www.about.salary.com.
