Getting a job at Colonial Williamsburg
I apologize if this is repeated elsewhere, but I am growing every frustrated. I have been applying for jobs at Colonial Williamsburg for over a month now. I don't have any experience related to retail experience, but I have worked in customer service for over 15 years. I have also acted in a few B-rated films out here in California.
I am in the process of working with a professional resume and cover letter writer. I have visited CW several times, have my own costume as I like to get dressed up and get into the reenacting. I do let people know I am a visitor just like them with my hotel guest pass on my chest and sunglasses. But people still think I work there. Anyway, I have a lot of fun when I am there. I am a major history buff, most familiar with Virginia and CW History.
I would like to make the career change. And I want to move out there. I am willing to come out at their convienence for an interview and re-locate at my own expense. I believe I am qualified for a position there. But, I can't even get my foot in the door with even an interview. Which is really frustrating that I can't even get something as simple as a dang interview!!!
So, I am hoping someone has tips for me, may work there and get into contact with me or something.
I would also love to work as a guide at Berkeley Plantation. I know the Harrison Family History extremely well and I know the house. I know the house well enough to give tours of the home right now. But, they want to know when I am going to be living out there. But, I need the job to go to in order to stay. Once hired, I have a supportive family that is willing to ship my things to me, so I wouldn't have to leave to pack once hired.
I am planning another trip to CW and Berkeley Aug 23-28th and then for 3 weeks in Oct-Nov. I do visit often.
I am giving up at this point though and may focus my attention on my 2nd choice, which is Charleston, SC. But my dream is to work at CW and Berkeley at the same time and also attend William and Mary for my BA in History. I already have an AS not in History though.
Desperately seeking work in CW and Berkeley Plantation.
Thank you in advance for any help and if you know anyone currently working there, please get them in contact with me.

Just wanted to bump you up. You seem like a person with a great dream and love of history who would do well there.
Good Luck finding contact with someone!

Thanks Rosette8. I do love history and I have been trying a little before I left there in May and really heavy in the last 6 weeks applying for everything I feel I am qualified for. Not so much as an interview, so I am devastated when I get the rejection e-mails.
I am now working with a professional resume and cover writer, so hopefully. And I am planning to go out again Aug 23rd for a week. And I want to go to William and Mary College. I did meet someone nice at Williamsburg named Adam. He is the magician at Chownings Tavern. I should have gotten his number and have him critique my resume. Oh well...

I currently work behind the scenes at CW and am trying to get into interpreting as well. If you applied for the day Interpreter job, you haven't gotten replies because it's summer. We have a TON of college students that work here until August. Re-apply then. That's what I'm planning on doing. They don't even have that job available online right now because it's filled up. On top of that, CW is slow when it comes to jobs. It almost always takes two months for a reply to the regular jobs. In the mean time, have you applied for the evening interpretation? It doesn't have many hours or benefits, but you could still audition and meet people. That may get you in to audition faster. If things don't change for you, please tell me and I can get you a list of contacts so you can check on things. It really is a wonderful place to work! Don't give up hope!
