Default What is the Charlottesville music scene like?

Ive been searching for quite some time for the "perfect" place. Well, the next six months are my time to make a solid decision about relocation. What is the music scene like in Charlottesville? Is it affordable there for a struggling college student? Job market?

Well, first let me disclose that I am totally biased because C-ville is my hometown. I have been away for four years now, but I would say that the music scene is unusually good for a town of its size, thanks to UVa and everything that comes with it. However, I think some of the best venues may have closed since I was around so things may have changed. Job market is, I think, extremely tight, largely because the university is constantly churning out a new crop of well educated folks, many looking to stay in the area. The cost of living is definitely higher than immediate surrounding areas, but maybe not all that different from other comparable cities, such as Chapel Hill and Asheville, NC. Hope this helps!

I'm a musician (cellist, composer) and a Realtor in Charlottesville. I love it here most of the time, sometimes I don't. For a musician (mainly classical, some commercial music) it's a great town in my opinion.
