What Virginians think about Maryland
I was talking with my wife and whenever the subject of Maryland comes up she says I always browbeat the state and people from maryland. I told her that my parents never liked Maryland nor the people and growing up I never liked maryland.
But I was wondering how other Virginians view our neighbors to the north? I think its funny but I spoke with a friend that I have not seen in 2 years and inadvertantly maryland was mentioned and he did the same thing, dogged Maryland and people from there. I live in NOVA and it seems the feeling is mutual from Marylanders.

Exactly what I was about to say, no one really cares about Marylanders anymore then anyone else, in Hampton Roads anyway. I know in Nova you all come in contact with each other quite often and work and play together in DC. Being from MD I've never felt any type of dislike from VA residents.

Ditto, that! But, I have to say, Eastern Marylanders really know how to honor a funeral procession--they all pull off the road and stop while the funeral procession passes by---unlike Virginians who will pull into the middle of a procession and scatter the cars! How rude!

isn't maryland that place you drive through for about 15 minutes while you are on your way to somewhere else?

ok thats another similarity i have heard, bad drivers.
But i thought some marylanders feel the same way, just from my experience growing up here.
We always tried to avoid going there.

I grew up in DC, then at age 6 moved to Maryland, near the Wilson Bridge, and have lived in Fairfax for the last 20 years. As a kid growing up, we seldom crossed the bridge to socialize, felt no need to but held no grudges against Virginians. At 30 years of age my wife and I came to the conclusion that our payroll taxes, hidden taxes, ridiculous car insurance rates, extra fees in purchasing a home, was eating at our savings and also Maryland is mostly a one party State. And did I mention the crime rate? We decided to move to Fairfax where we've been able to prosper. I still like Maryland because I believe it has some advantages over Virginia as far as better medical laws and infrastructure that help patients not monopolies like NOVA hospitals and some perks for employees instead of the "right to work" business which has its benefits too but has its down side also. I will never move back to Maryland but will stay close to her borders instead for personal reasons, wither it be in Fairfax or Eastern Shore. Having family roots in the Washinigton area for a couple of centuries I consider myself more of a Washingtonian than anything.

Interesting, I could never move to maryland, for some of the same reasons. But I am curious, what did you think of the whole potomac feud our states had about the Virginias extension of the water pipes into the river? I mean wow, that pissed me off, maryland thinks they own the river. They even tried to sue but it was thrown down rather quickly and told that we share the river. Your thoughts?
