Depends on which part. If you are talking Alexandria and Northern VA, h$%l no!! If it's Hampton Roads, it's pretty much half and half.

What I have personally found is somewhere between Richmond and Fredericksburg there is a definite divide. In Richmond the people are much nicer and it is a world of difference from the people in Northern VA. Really like night and day for me.

People can be nice in Central Virginia, but they also tend to do alot of talking behind peoples backs/gossiping. I find that quite depressing. If one is used to it that ithis probably not a big deal. Even if people are not talking about ME, I find it quite rude. It is probably a cultural thing.

In the flagship counties of Northern Virginia like Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William, while I'll admit that it isn't the most friendly place on Earth, what many see as "rudeness" is in reality just people busy with their jobs/schedules/families and are for the most part concentrated on that. These citizens of Northern VA are for the most part "too busy/tired to be nice or rude." Now if you want to see unprovoked rudeness, go to DC and nearly anywhere north of it. You may run into that as well from the yuppies of Arlington and Alexandria as well.

Southern hospitality is a double edged sword. You get the sharp edge when your back is turned.

Oh my...some of these posts sound like a friendship pact broken up.
People in Virginia are generally nice, like any other place. There are good and bad people everywhere. If you want real southern hospitality, go to the deep south. Those folks appreciate what they have and will give you the shirt off their backs if need be.

Most Virginians are nice--unless they're driving on the interstate--then it's every man for himself--honestly! We have some of the absolute RUDEST drivers around. Get into NC, and the entire driving experience is different! Much more mannerly!
