Name of Bluegrass area of sw YA
I used to have the name of a website for the Bluegrass Road or whatever it is called in sw VA and I cannot remember what is called. It lists all of the bluegrass music festivals in that area.
Anyone know to what I am rerferring?

I believe you are referring to The Crooked Road, which I understand begins in Rocky Mount, VA.
Cheers,

Dan Tyminski, the guy who won the grammy for his rendition of "Man of Constant Sorrow" from the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack and helped put bluegrass back into popular culture for a time, lived in Ferrum until he moved to Nashville and joined up with Alison Krauss. I discovered Dan's music through the movie, and then was amazed to discover that he grew up in the same place I did. In Vermont! Oh, the irony.
The rumor is that Rocky Mount and Franklin County will be working together this year to begin designing and implementing a really nice music venue catering to bluegrass. That's good news, with FC's substantially deeper pockets there is some definite potential for it to be quite something!

Galax, VA is the host of the old time fiddlers convention, which has been held annually since 1935. Lots of traditional blue ridge music.

The Floyd Country Store Floyd Country Store » Home has music every Friday night and on other special occasions to. There are several other venues in Floyd that also have live music, much of local musicians.
There is also FloydFest, four days of music and camping at the end of July each year.

Ralph Stanley is King of Bluegrass in SW VA and won an Emmy for his music in "Ole Brother". He has a Blue Grass Festival yearly on his property in Wise/Dickenson Co. I'm sure he has a web site if you're interested.

I love Ralph Stanley (he's a distant cousin of mine, even though I have never met him in person). I'd love to go to the festival on his property and will look up his website to see when it is. I have family all over Wise, Dickenson, Buchanon, and Washington counties....LOVE that local music!!!
