Question Moving to Fort Lee area in November want an idea of the area

Well I'm moving to the Fort Lee area with a friend and I was looking to see if someone could give me an idea on what it looks like and how the people are and how the roads and weather is and where some good job opportunity and some good friendly places are and just get me a little more prepared for the big change cause I've never been far from home (Georgia and South Carolina) and I'm really nervous about this move because well we dont get snow here or anything. very confused on how Fort Lee is and what everything is like up there. anyone willing to help lol.

Fort Lee is in what you call Petersburg, Virginia - The "Cockade City of the Union." It's wonderful up there. Historic Colonial and Civil War churches (especially Blandford Church and it's Churchyard), Old Towne Petersburg with the Trapezium House, Siege Museum, Center Hill Mansion. Wonderful restaurants in Old Towne Petersburg, Petersburg Nat'l Battlefield is right next to Ft. Lee, Poplar Grove Nat'l Cemetery and the Five Forks Battlefield (Five forks in dinwiddie county) Units of the Main Battlefield unit (Which i think cost with the Main Battlefield unit), and much more. When you move there, check it out. u'll imagine yourself like your in the civil war during the shelling escaping bombardment.

Default Fort Lee area

Fort Lee is more than just Petersburg. You have Colonial Heights, hopewell and Prince george (tri-cities) close by as well. There is a pretty good sized mall in Colonial Heights as well as some other retail shops. I personally prefer the Colonial Heights part of the Fort Lee area over Petersburg, its a bit more suburban per say and there are more military families in this area. I also feel its safer than the Petersburg City area, lots of that area are poverished although you will find a few cool historic pockets. You could also check out counties closer in to Richmond because Richmond itself is less than a 30 min. drive away. In particular you can get to areas of Chesterfield County in less than 10 mins from Fort Lee, with a great school district. Good Luck with your search.

Will you also be job-hunting? That may help us get an idea of what exactly you are looking for. Also, the Richmond subforum may have a bit more information.

I haven't been to Petersburg, VA since 1973 (yeah, I'm old...). When I was there it smelled like tobacco? Does anyone think it still does?
