Has anyone heard anything good about Virginia Commonwealth Univ. in Richmond? Did anyone go here? I was thinking about moving to Richmond and I'd like to finish my degree - this seems to be the local state univ. --- any advice would be appreciated...

Yes, I would like some info as well. I am applying to pharmacy school at VCU. I think this is a good school? What about the area? Someone else was asking about a good curry in the area, though I prefer Thai. Surely one could drive to DC, though that is quite a hassle. And I to would like to know whether a good panang or masaman can be obtained in Richmond. What about the Hampton/VABeach area, is that nice. I am also applying to Hampton University. I don't know much about Virginia, so any information would be appreciated, because chances are I will end up in one of these two schools.
Thanks, Future Pharm student. |

is that their rivals in college hoops are my alma mater - Old Dominion U.
They play at 12pm today in a huge CAA matchup and the Monarchs are gonna mop up the floor w/ the VCU Rams. Other than that - I can't say about their school. I'm just on here talking about what's truly important... Basketball rivalries!! ![]() |

It has a good mix of hipsters and non-hipsters who peacefully co-exist at VCU.
It has a great music department and is great for art majors. Even though the campus is urban, they have a large security system- with even a shuttle bus, so you're pretty safe at VCU as well. Contrary to popular believe, the crime in Richmond is not downtown. Its more on jeff davis hwy and the eastern suburbs. |

VCU is a really good state university -- especially in the health sciences. Their research is excellent. Bluflower, what area specifically would you be studying? My husband was an art student there, and several of my friends got their MBA from VCU and were very pleased. There is wonderful dining in Richmond, and a good Indian restaurant selection. Also great Thai food. Wonderful dining, really, for the size town it is. For a good list, look at the Food and Drink section of www.styleweekly.com. Style is the lifestyle publication for Richmond. The only caution I'd give you is that VCU is an urban campus, right in the middle of town, so you do need to be careful, and keep your personal safety in mind. Just don't do stupid things. As VASinger says, VCU is pretty agressive in keeping the campus safe, it's more once you venture off into the neighborhoods, just south of campus gets sketchy pretty quickly.
