My family and I are renting a cabin near Martinsville for Thanksgiving. I would really like to arrange to either rent a turkey fryer or possible buy a deep fried turkey from a local place, does anyone know of anywhere in the area that does either of these things?

I've seen Lowes selling them before, I believe.

Have you ever deep fried a turkey? It's tricky. If you haven't before try to snag an article about it. I've had two deep fried turkeys, one of which was pretty good and one which was not so special. I think it has something to do with the type of oil, and perhaps how mature the oil is (as with french fries, brand new oil doesn't make the best fry).

You've got to use Peanut Oil, that is the way to go for a flavorful non-greasy turkey. You can buy them that way, but I would suggest purchasing a fryer and pay attention to the safety warnings!
