Cool Relocating to Hanover, VA

Hello everyone... May take a new job in Hanover, VA. Looking for area info, etc. Any bad areas, swampy/buggy areas, etc. I will probably have to rent while I look for a farm to buy. NEED small house and minimum 12acres and 6 (up to 20)-stall barn w/in commuting area to Hanover. High/dry soils, pond, creek, scenic, etc.
I am willing to sacrifice a longer commute to get a better living area. MUST have small town feel, friendly people, single men that can fix a fence(hahaha), sweet tea!
Any tax info? I'm in Delaware now and I've heard VA is extremely expensive to live in? I've been so wrapped up looking for farms, I've forgotten to look into the little things as well!
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I live in Richmond just south of Hanover County. Hanover is not that expensive compared to northern Virginia. In fact, its pretty affordable. There is a great little town called Ashland which has Randolph Macon College and The Henry Clay Inn. A little railroad passes through it. Its just about 15 miles north of Richmond.

There are lots of horses and horse farms in the region.

There arent many swampy places. Its pretty much more rural though than other areas of Metro Richmond.

Hanover Tavern is a great place to eat and there are lots of other historic places in the area, including Scotchtown- home of Patrick Henry.

So, if you're a history buff you'll love it.

Hi there:

I will be attending the Hanover County Public schools teachers fair this month. I was wondering about the overall quality of the schools. I know that N.VA is quite progressive in education, but with the costs of living and crime make staying and teaching here prohibitive.

Are there any IB schools? Good quality health clubs in the county? How far is Hanover from Old Rag Mtn? I opeing to relocating, and taking a pay cut, since the quality of life seems better.
