Default Suggestions for things to see and do on a weekend getaway to Abingdon

I trying to do some planning ahead for weekend getaways for the next year or so. The Abingdon area is one place that I am thinking of visiting, I've heard good things about the Martha Washigton Inn from family members.

What all is there to see and do in Abingdon for a weekend getaway? Suggestions greatly welcomed.

I haven't been to the Martha Washington Inn in years, but I liked it there. Also, you absolutely MUST go to Barter Theater. It's possibly one of the most historic sites in Abingdon. Also, there is a movie theater in Abingdon if I'm not mistaken that is one of a few that was chosen specifically by George Lucas to house a special sound system for the most recent Star Wars movies (though I'm not entirely sure). However, it might be the same theater that the movie Stardust premiered. The artist of the graphic novels the movie was based off of supposedly comes from the area.

It's one of the most beautiful cities in SW Virginia in my opinion. Here's a link for more ideas: Abingdon - Virginia Is For Lovers

Thank You for the suggestions. My aunt who suggested the Martha Washington Inn is big on antiques and most of her suggestions were limited to that.

Cave House Crafts is a must if you are into "homespun" quilts, pottery, clothes, dolls, etc. It is a restored historic home with crafts displayed in each room throughout the house...and there is even a cave out back.

Try Allison's restaurant for the best potato soup I have ever tasted...they are known nationwide for their soup!

I'll be up there this weekend and can't wait for the Fall weather and changing leaves.
